About VASER Hi Definition Liposuction

VASER stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. In addition to liposuction, this state-of-the-art technology utilizes liposculpting to create defined contours throughout the body.

Traditional Liposuction vs. VASER Hi-Definition Liposuction

Traditional liposuction is considered the foundational technique on which many subsequent liposuction techniques are based. In traditional liposuction, also referred to as suction-assisted liposuction (SAL), a surgeon will insert a cannula underneath the skin and manually move the thin tube back and forth to aspirate fat. The process can be tiring and result in less precision and increased trauma to the body. VASER liposuction is a form of ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL) which utilizes an ultrasound cannula to break down, emulsify, and suction fat cells more effortlessly. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction results in less surgeon fatigue and a more efficient procedure.

How VASER Hi-Def Works

VASER liposculpting technology uses ultrasound energy to loosen fat cells from surrounding tissues using a safer, faster method called cavitation. Cavitation is a process that disrupts the structure of the fatty tissue on a cellular level. The vibrations from the ultrasonic energy agitate the tumescent fluid, and create bubbles that dislodge fat cells more easily when they burst. Because it only targets the fat, VASER Hi-Def significantly reduces trauma to the treatment area, leading to less bruising and reduced swelling after the procedure is complete.

Both traditional liposuction and VASER Hi Def liposuction use tumescent solution to reduce blood loss and aspirate dislodged fat cells more easily. As a result, patients who undergo VASER Hi-Definition Liposuction experience a shorter recovery time than with traditional liposuction.

Benefits

VASER Hi Def Liposuction has numerous benefits which include:

  • Less bruising and swelling
  • Less invasive procedure
  • Less damage to surrounding muscles and tissues
  • Sculpting of the body
  • Shorter recovery period

Fat emulsification from VASER Hi-Def Liposuction accomplishes two key things. It removes difficult-to-dislodge fat cells permanently, which creates a default skin-tightening effect from the heat of the ultrasound energy. This helps patients avoid complications that can arise from traditional liposuction such as loose skin and contour irregularities. Overall, VASER liposuction refines traditional fat suction techniques for smoother results with more definition.

Candidates

You may be a good candidate for VASER Hi-Def Liposuction if:

  • You are at a stable, healthy body weight
  • You are within 30% of your ideal BMI
  • Diet and exercise alone haven’t helped you achieve goals for your body
  • Have isolated stores of fat on your body
  • You have realistic expectations of the procedure’s outcome

It is important to understand that VASER liposuction, like any liposuction procedure, is not a weight-loss surgery. Instead, it sculpts and accentuates the appearance of musculature and eliminates areas of fat prevalent in individuals who are already at a healthy body weight. These individuals also are intentional in maintaining a health-conscious lifestyle with consistent diet and exercise habits.

Preparation

To adequately prepare for VASER Hi-Def Liposuction, we encourage you to follow preoperative instructions exactly to give you the best results possible. Please follow this guidance when preparing for your procedure.

  • Provide us with a complete medical history.
  • Quit smoking two weeks before.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol 48 hours before.
  • Avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin.
  • Maintain a healthy weight in the months before.
  • Pick up prescription medications beforehand.
  • Pre-arrange a designated driver to and from our office.
  • Pre-arrange a trusted person to stay with you for the first 24 hours.
  • Prepare a comfortable place in your home for your recovery.

Procedure

The procedure can take between one and several hours depending on the number of areas treated. First, your surgeon will administer anesthesia. A tumescent solution that includes saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine will then be injected into the targeted areas. The tumescent solution aids in the removal of fat as it makes the tissue more rigid. It also acts as an analgesic. An ultrasound cannula will then be inserted through a small incision to break down and emulsify fat from the subdermal tissues and muscles. As the cannula breaks down fat, it will be vacuumed, or “aspirated” out. Once the procedure is complete, Dr. Cohen will wrap the area in a compression garment.

Recovery

After your procedure, we will briefly monitor you before releasing you for pickup. Recovery time for VASER Hi-Def Liposuction is usually shorter than that of traditional liposuction, and recovery time may vary according to the area treated.

As your body heals, you may experience soreness, bruising, and swelling. Recovery usually takes around ten days. After one week, some people may be ready to return to work, while others may require additional time off. In the first weeks, you should engage in gentle exercise such as walking to encourage circulation and aid healing. Most patients are advised to return to more strenuous activity after roughly six weeks. After treatment, you may also need to continue to wear a compression garment. This garment will aid with swelling, and will also help shape the body so that it molds to its new sculpted form. Additionally, you should stay well-hydrated throughout your recovery and eat a balanced, healthy diet.

Results

After your VASER Hi-Def procedure, you may see an immediate change in the treated areas, but at first it may be swollen. As swelling subsides, results will become more apparent within one to three months. Patients see their final results within three to six months.

Frequently Asked Questions VASER Hi-Def Liposuction

Is VASER Hi-Def the same as VASER?

VASER and VASER Hi-Def are two procedures that use similar techniques. However, many consider VASER Hi-Def to be a more detailed, precision treatment. VASER Hi-Def can provide natural-looking muscle definition for enhanced body sculpting.

Can VASER Hi-Def help me get a six-pack?

Although VASER Hi-Def cannot build muscle, it can remove the tissue surrounding the muscle for enhanced definition. For patients who desire a more prominent six-pack, the procedure uses an ultrasound-assisted cannula to resculpt tissue around the abdominal musculature for a toned, trim appearance.
